Hydroelectric PlantDid you know that clean energy is being produced for Los Alamos, practically in our own backyard?

This is a rare chance to tour the hydroelectric plant in Abiquiu, operated by the Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities. Originally constructed in 1990, it was the first hydropower project nationwide to be funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The addition of a turbine in 2011 increased the plant's capacity from 13.5 to 16.5 megawatts. The new turbine produces enough energy to power 1,100 homes annually, and supplies clean energy to Los Alamos County, including LANL.

Cameras are allowed on the tour and pictures are encouraged.
