Spend an early morning in the unique wetland habitat of the Leonora Curtin Wetlands Preserve, southwest of Santa Fe, with expert birder Mouser Williams and Docent Natali Steinberg.

The pond attracts a wide variety of water birds, including grebes, ducks, herons, egrets, coots and rails.  Also seen near the pond are the belted kingfisher and an occasional gull. Songbirds, such as marsh wrens and red-winged blackbirds, nest in the cattail marsh bordering the pond.  Others, such as black phoebes and violet-green swallows, nest in trees along the banks of the pond.  Large cottonwoods and other trees along the cienega valley provide nest sites for red-tailed hawks, kestrels, herons, and owls.  The riparian woodlands and the juniper savannas on the drier upland slopes provide additional contrasting bird habitats. Hummingbirds and blue birds nest in the Russian Olives.

Enjoy coffee, homemade scones, and fruit and yogurt parfait as you bird!
