Take Wing Event: Private Art Show

Take wing with PEEC at one of our special Take Wing events.  These special events are offered as thank you gifts for donations to PEEC's capital campaign of $150 or more per person registering. To register, make a donation either online or by check to PEEC's capital campaign.  Once your donation is received, you will be emailed a link to the registration page for all the Take Wing events.  The hardest part?  Choosing just one event!  Please call us at 662-0460 if you experience any trouble registering.

Ever been delighted by a cartoonist’s depiction of your favorite critter doing something hilarious? Awed by a life-size reconstruction of a living dinosaur that no one has ever seen? Amazed at the detail that a pen-and-ink illustration can give to fur and feather?  Here is a rare chance to see the original artwork from which the commercial representations were printed. This show is selected from a seldom-seen collection of over 2000 pieces of illustration, comic and cartoon art. The majority is related to biology, paleontology, archaeology and other topics that fall under the classic definition of natural history; most of the other art relates to science fiction and fantasy. The collectors will be on-hand for questions and discussion.

The artists represented in this collection range tremendously from gifted amateurs to classic and idea-defining artists, such as Charles R. Knight, Frank Frazetta, renowned mural-artist Robert Walters, Roy Krenkel, Fritz Freleng, Chuck Jones, Gary Larson, and locally well-known fine artist Jamie Chase.

The art selected for this private viewing, accompanied by the collectors, will include a number of pieces following three basic themes: natural history in the comics and cartoons, life of the past represented in art, and Man’s journey on the planet from deep prehistory through to deep space.

The event will be held at a showpiece home on the edge of White Rock Canyon, and will be accompanied by delicious hors d'ouevres and drinks.
