Description

The venue for this talk has changed! Due to recommendations from the New Mexico Department of Health and the closure of the Los Alamos Nature Center, we will be hosting this presentation via live-stream. There will be a short Mountaineers meeting portion, then we'll hear all about Don Krier and Gwendolyn Gallagher's adventures in Italy's Dolomites, all from the comfort of your own home.

About the Presentation:

In Italy’s Dolomites range, soaring limestone towers reflect the alpenglow, and green plateaus contrast with rugged scree. In 2018, Don and Gwendolyn backpacked the Alta Via 1 - a stunning “high route” that comprised 11 days, 100 miles, and 26,000’ of elevation gain/loss. In addition to seeing the remarkable natural beauty on the route, they stayed in rustic and lively mountain refuges and encountered historical remnants of the Italian front during World War I. Having finally had enough polenta, speck, and Spritz Aperol in the high country, they finished off their trip with a few mountain biking and via ferrata adventures.
